The name Cuxton is thought to have originated in the Saxon period when a Chieftain named Cucula has a stone boundary marker laid there for him. Over the centuries many variations on the name have been used such as Cuclestane and Cookestone.
Throughout the centuries the majority of people living in Cuxton were agricultural labourers but the Industrial Revolution brought brick-making to the area in 1772 making use of the raw materials and river transport. With this came an increase in population and a need for more housing.
Today, Cuxton is a dormitory village for Rochester and the Medway Towns. Consisting of around 1200 houses the closeness to the M2 and M20 puts it within easy reach of London and the coast
